Attribute charts for defective units,on which to base calculations of defect levels. What is now required is detail regarding the attribute chart chosen for a particular situation. This chapter will concentrate on the analysis of non-conforming units (defectives). The two related charts (p and np) will be studied and guidance given on setting them up and interpreting them.

The normal distribution and sampling,The statistical basis of the control chart for variables is the normal distribution. Even for attribute charting the normal distribution can be used as an acceptable practical basis, and therefore some knowledge of the properties of this distribution is necessary.

Control charts for attributes,It is disappointing, yet at the same time not surprising, that attribute charts have played a minor role in SPC programmes. The companies who have introduced charts over the years have restricted them, for a variety of reasons, to the familiar . variety. This has resulted in a negative approach to SPC implementation.

Attribute charts for defects,raft navigation equipment will fail if a greasy thumb mark is registered in a critical item of the component at the assembly stage. Controlling and reducing the level of nonconformities is therefore just as important as monitoring the rejection rate for non-conforming units. The two charts used are the u chart and the c chart.
