Boom and then Bust: Lessons Learnt from My Time Teaching in Three Bilingual Schools in the Northernn the NT, which no longer actively support and promote Aboriginal languages and bilingual education, will result in a similar language loss situation found in the southern states, where few Aboriginal languages are being passed on to the younger generation as viable first languages.

The Quest for Community Control at Yirrkala School, Yol?u and their efforts to put into place the integral pieces of the plan for the growth and consolidation of community control of education at Yirrkala and Homeland Centres. Bilingual education was a development that produced a number of outcomes that directly contributed to community control of education.
