Molecular and Cellular Aspects of Iron-Mediated Liver Toxicitys and/or by-products of peroxidative oxidation of biological membranes may lead to hepatocyte damage or direct stimulation of HSC. Finally, iron, in conjunction with other hepatotoxins (e.g. alcohol, viruses, etc.) may dramatically enhance liver damage and accelerate progression of liver disease.

Cytotoxic and Protective Effects of Bile Salts ,equimolar doses of deoxycholate alone. Cytotoxicity of bile salts is correlated to their physico-chemical properties and is enhanced by reduction of lipid availability in the media. Toxicity of deoxycholate is significantly reduced by addition of low doses of hydrophilic bile salts.
