Marburg Virus Disease. Clinical Syndrome,ers. Until now only single cases of diseases transmitted by monkeys are known as e.g. “herpes simiae” and “Rabies”. The “new” disease observed in Marburg, Frankfurt, and Belgrade was the first to occur in an epidemic outbreak.

On morphological criteria it was shown to be a virus with a highly complex structure related to the viruses of vesicular stomatitis and rabies [6, 7]. This finding has been confirmed by others [8–12].

Absence of Serological Relationship Between the Marburg Virus and Some Arboviruses,elated to any of perhaps close to 200 microorganisms with which it has been compared. In a way this could end the present paper, particularly since a sizable part of the results directed towards establishing the antigenic characteristics of the agent have already been reported in publications from several laboratories.

Biological Properties of the Marburg Virus,insects [8]. However, in adult mice [7] and in the fetal organs of chick-embryos [18, 11] no multiplication of virus could be detected. Susceptibility to infection with Marburg virus varies considerably from host to host. In most systems the pathogenicity of the virus for a new host seems to increase gradually during several passages.
