The Increasing Diversity of World Language Study in the United States, 1958–2016guages. These findings suggest that the coming decades may see a significant shift in enrollments away from the languages of the Global North towards the study of the languages and cultures of the Global South.

MLA Language Enrollment Trends in less commonly taught languages are discussed. The decline in enrollments in the 2013 census, the 2016 census, and the 2020 sample survey, as well as the projected decline in the 2021 census are analyzed. A comparison is done of the decline in overall student enrollments at colleges and universities and the decline in language enrollments.
