Mainland China, elder education such as community learning and long-distance have undergone growth in the past decades. Elder education in China requires more resources and clearer guidance in the future. Greater development of elder learning in China hinges upon the consideration of social context, keeping up with the times, and meeting elders’ learning demand.

The Hong Kong community, the older people, the providers, the government, and the business sector, should collaborate to promote a model or even a mixture of different models that caters to the specific needs of the Hong Kong elder population, with reference to the socio-economic context of Hong Kong in face of an ageing population.

Japan,ccessful initiatives of older adult education in Japan are presented to include Kohminkan classes, large-sized Senior College, the senior targeted entrance exam of traditional universities, NPO Osaka Senior College, and library services for older adults. Finally, rationales and issues for promoting older adult learning in Japan are presented.
