Ion-Optical Considerations on E.M. SeparatorsWe have considered how to construct the best isotope separator. Every isotope separator can be described as an optical system (Fig. 1). Particles of an energy ε (refraction index .) leave the meniscus of the plasma of the ion source (height .) in the angular range .. They are focused by an immersion lens (Pierce system or not) to an overcross.
