Interpreting Competence: Nursing Staff and Family Members as Ad Hoc Interpreters in Hospitals,ns treating them. These communication problems are generally solved by the use of ad hoc interpreters. The survey from P?chhacker (2000) reveals that mostly bilingual family members (family interpreters) and nursing staff translate for them and enable understanding.
