New Direct Spectrophotometric Determination of Aluminum in Steel, Spelter, and Iron OresA new, improved spectrophotometric method for the direct determination of aluminum in steels, iron ores, and spelter is described. Interference from ferrous iron is prevented by the incorporation of a sulfite in the buffer, and the aluminum complex is enhanced in sensitivity and stability by the addition of polycyclic ketoamine.

The Detection of Pesticides by Means of Infrared Emission SpectroscopyInfrared emission spectra of DDT, Sevin, Malathion, and Dieldrin have been measured with a multiple-scan interference spectrometer. The exploratory experiments indicate that quantities of pesticides in the microgram range can be examined.
