On the Why of Robotic Assistive Devices,be called robots and, somewhat surprisingly, they were not born in the mind of Asimov, but in classic Greek culture: according to Homer’s Iliad, Hephaestus used robots to assist him in buildingAchilles’ newarmor (Book XVIII). Literature has always been ahead in these areas, yet the first real known robot was built somewhere around I century.

Sex, Sensibility and the Gendered Bodyman control -if the robotic wheelchair provides no assistance at all- or to conventional robot autonomous navigation, if the user only provides a destination. Ideally, though, the contribution of person and machine to control should be adjusted depending on the environment, input instance and user’s state and condition.

Sex, Sensibility and the Gendered Bodya Agevole has the . requirements to be standard-compliant, specifically meaning, in our case, that doors width and room sizes are very reduced, yet appropriate for wheelchair navigation and should fit our needs. Or, in other words, if our wheelchair can not navigate within this house, it could be of no use to operate in a common one.
