Metabolically Generated Free Radicals from Many Types of Chemical Carcinogens and Binding of the Rapyrene in which no diol-epoxide formation is expected were found to be activated to reactive free radicals. These findings suggest that the metabolically formed free radicals are important in chemical carcinogenesis.

The significance of these data to the role of mutation in cancer initiation is discussed

The Effect of Base Modification on Fidelity in Transcription,possible tautomeric shift with C, the orientation of the substituent plays a major role in determining fidelity. Thus N.-methoxy C acts only as U; N.-hydroxy C, N.-MeC, and N.-MeG act ambiguously; and N.-acetyl C base-pairs only with G. Three different substituents on the N. of A did not affect A·U pairing, indicating an anti conformation.

Business Cycles: Discrete Time,sence of even weak nucleophiles in the incubation. In contrast, products of 7,8-dihydro- 7,8-dihydroxybenzo(a)pyrene seem to be trapped primarily by enzyme- mediated glutathione conjugation. Our results underline the physiological importance of the nuclear envelope in the final activation of benzo(a)- pyrene to DNA-binding products.
