Hassan A. Karimit was discovered in a region adjacent to the rhabdoms (Hara and Hara, 1965). We have called this second photopigment “retinochrome”. This chapter reviews the evidence that retinochrome, though not a visual pigment, may contribute to the visual mechanism by its co-operative relationship to cephalopod rhodopsin.
