描述Porous media are ubiquitous throughout nature and in manymodern technologies. Because of their omnipresent nature, porous mediaare studied to one degree or another in almost all branches of scienceand engineering. This text is an outgrowth of a two-semester graduatecourse on multiscale porous media offered to students in applied math,physics, chemistry, engineering (civil, chemical, mechanical,agricultural), and environmental and soil science. The text is largelybased on Dr Cushmans‘ groups efforts to build a rational approach tostudying porous media over a hierarchy of spatial and temporal scales.No other text covers porous media on scales ranging from angstroms tomiles. Nor does any other text develop and use such a diversity oftools for their study. The text is designed to be self-contained, asit presents all relevant mathematical and physical constructs.

in rapt attention in the audience, many of us could relate to what’s been happening. While in 2001, the original signatories of the Agile Manifesto created a powerful and aspirational vision for software development and established its first principles, the current reality seemed to be very distant from what was originally propounded.
