Synthesis,e relation to investigations of succession itself, stability, productivity, and nutrient balance of ecosystems were often studied. Thus, we can try to compare our conclusions with former and newly emerged theories focusing on common trends in succession.

Summary,ca. fifty years of succession in both studied seres. Some conclusions are simplified, since they were often inferred from a simple comparison of young (X1, X2, and M1, M2) and old (X3 and M3) fields. Many characteristics have not changed unidirectionally during the whole period under consideration.
