High Quality Low-Delay Speech Coding at 12 kb/sFor low-delay speech coders, the research challenge is to obtain higher compression rates while maintaining very high speech quality and meeting stringent low delay requirements. Such coders have applications in telephone networks, mobile radio, and increasingly for in-building wireless telephony.

Variable Rate Speech Coding for Cellular Networks an average bit-rate .. that is substantially less than the bit rate .. that would be required by an equivalent quality fixed rate coder. Efficient multiple-access systems, such as CDMA, directly translate this rate reduction into a corresponding increase in network capacity.
