Introduction,Near-space, the region between controlled commercial airspace and low-earth orbit (LEO), offers several capabilities that are critical to emerging remote sensing applications, but not accessible to current satellites and airplanes. In this chapter, we explain what near-space is and why it should be exploited for remote sensing.
