When the attempt is made to quantify these losses, however, difficulties do arise and it is one of the purposes of this paper to illustrate these difficulties with special reference to a local survey commissioned by the University of Dundee.

The use of two different fluorescent tracers, released simultaneously, to distinguish between the consequences of two different sources of pollution is also described very briefly.
