描述.This book provides a comparative study of fascisms and reactionary nationalisms. It presents these as transnational political cultures and examines the dictatorships and regimes in which these cultures played significant roles. The book is organised into three main sections, focusing on nationalists, fascists and dictatorships in turn. The chapters range across French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German experiences, and include a broader overview of the political cultures in Central and Eastern Europe as well as Latin America. The chapters consider the identities, organizations and evolution of the various cultures and specific political movements, alongside the intersections between these movements and how they adapted to changing contexts. By doing so, the book offers a global view of fascisms and reactionary nationalisms, and promotes debate around these political cultures..

Reactionary Nationalism and Fascism: The German Case Nazis could be tamed despite clear signs to the contrary. With few exceptions, conservatives continued to cooperate with the National Socialist regime, even after the writing was on the wall in 1933.

Fascism in France: A Historiographical Development Since 1945citization of the minds during the 1930s which affected some intellectuals, journalists and political militants belonging to right or left. Although French fascism was a minor phenomenon, it wasn’t a marginal one. A fascist political culture was emerging and growing.

The Portuguese “Blue Shirts” and Salazar’s “New State” a sizeable army sector and had organized several coup attempts against the Salazar regime. As in other authoritarian contexts, the consolidation of the “New State” of Salazar meant the dissolution and repression of native fascism.
