Structure of Atoms,In this chapter we discuss several approaches to the calculation of properties of atoms. Exact calculations are extremely difficult. This is because of the repulsive Coulomb interaction between electrons and the spin-orbit interaction of the electrons, which results from the interaction of the electron spin with the electric field of the atom.
