Non-perturbative corrections in ,=2 strings, the type IIA and on the heterotic side. The coincidence of their perturbative part provides a test of duality. The type IIA result is then used to predict the full, non-perturbative correction to the heterotic effective action. We determine the instanton numbers and the Olive-Montonen duality group

Black holes, branes and superconformal symmetry, of Yang-Mills theory. The reality condition of the analytic subspace, which includes the antipodal map on the sphere, has a simple meaning of the symmetry of the string action in the curved space. The relevant issues of black holes and superconformal mechanics are addressed.
