The Overview of QualityThere are three quality levels of requirement for any company: quality economics at the company level, quality assurance at the project and product management level, and quality control at the day-to-day development level.

Auditing the SystemBS 5750 Parts 1 and 2 both call for a periodic and systematic audit of the quality system. In other words, the quality system must be regularly reviewed in order to check its fitness for purpose. Products, processes and working practices change and, as a result, the quality system will need to evolve in order to be effective.

Collecting Quality CostsThe need to identify the costs of quality is by no means new, but the practice is far from widespread. Attempts to budget for the various types of quality-related costs are rare and planning the activities to identify, measure and control them is even rarer. This is surprising in view of their relative size compared with profits.
