An Application of Filtering to Statistical Process Control the process is available, procedures based on the `optimal’ [Godambe (1985)] smoother can be superior to the classical procedures like Shewhart and CUSUM control charts We also discuss the relationship among EWMA, Kalman filtering and the `optimal’ smoother. This smoother and its applications are also illustrated through an example.
