Probability and Materials: Data Subjective and Objective Modeling,A brief synthesis is presented for the contributed papers of Session A on “Data: Subjective and Objective Modeling” of the International Workshop PROBAMAT. Then, some of the critical issues of geotechnical site data modeling are discussed.

Introduction to the Workshop ProbaMat, debate which will certainly be relevant as you may have noticed when reading the subjects of the abstracts, but rather to propose an idea or two on the role of probabilities and also statistics in engineering. For that, I shall show what are, to my mind, the stakes and the open questions of scientific research in our field.

Role of Disorder in Brittle Fracture,stical distribution of stress as a function of the damage. We study the distribution of stiffness difference for each elementary fracture. Finally, we introduce a Classification of the scaling effect as a function of the disorder in the structure.
