Free Radical Mechanism of Oxidative Modification of Low Density Lipoprotein (or the Rancidity of BoNearly five decades ago, Golumbic and Mattill (1941) reported that ascorbic acid (vitamin C), despite its low solubility in lipid, could enhance the antioxidant action of α-tocopherol (vitamin E) in a synergistic fashion.
