The Cathode Ray Tuben Fig. 2-1., the cathode cylinder having been removed for this purpose. As can be seen, it is bent double. This is done to obtain maximum heating by the most economical means. To insulate it from the cathode, the filament is coated with a layer of kaolin. The filament can be heated by direct or alternating current.
