On a SQP-Multigrid Technique for Nonlinear Parabolic Boundary Control Problems,sequence of unconstrained ones by a method due to Bertsekas. A multigrid approach developed by Hackbusch is applied to solve the unconstrained problems. Some numerical examples illustrate the behavior of the method.

Cut-Loci and Cusp Singularities in Parametrized Families of Extremals,nd generate a cut-locus which limits the optimality of the close-by trajectories and eliminates these trajectories from optimality near the cusp point prior to the conjugate point. In the language of PDE, the simple cusp in the parametrized flow of extremals generates a shock in the corresponding solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation.

Optimization of the Short Term Operation of a Cascade of Hydro Power Stations,ucture of the problem, a descent method of reduced gradient type is developed. Convexification is used to avoid getting trapped in local minima. Further scaling of the problem has been applied with rather dramatic success. MATLAB computations on a small but realistic problem are presented.
