Undamped oscillations of NLC director in the field of an ordinary light waveWe have investigated experimentally some characteristic features of orientational aberration self-focusing of an ordinary light wave in a homotropically oriented NLC. A qualitative explanation of these features is offered.

Light Propagation in Anisotropic Stratified Media in the Quasi Adiabatic Limiton of the conventional 4x4 Berreman matrix. An approximate propagation equation is deduced for the Jones vector giving the polarization state of the wave propagating in the forward direction. The results obtained by using this equation are compared with the exact ones and the limits of validity of the present approach are discussed.

The Orientational Mechanism of Nonlinearity and the Self-Focusing of He-Ne Laser Radiation in Nematied 60 .m thick NLC layer has been carried out experimentally. The measured value of the nonlinearity effective constant .. = 0.07 cm./erg corresponds to theoretical predictions, and turns out to be larger than the CS. nonlinearity by ≈ 10. times.

The Influence of the Finite Size of the Light Spot on the Laser Induced Reorientation of Liquid Crysula for static electric fields of infinite large dimension in the cell plane. Experimental data measured on a homeotrop OCB (octyl-cyano-byphenyl) sample fit well the theoretical curve.
