Particle Sizing by Inversion of Extinction Data,. In the so-called extinction methods,. one measures the spectral turbidity of the sample or, in other words, the extinction coefficient τ (k), for different values of the wavenumber k of the incident light. More precisely, k represents a reduced wave number which takes into account the refractive index characterizing the suspension.

Mie Scattering Near the Critical Angle,Complex angular momentum theory is applied to the problem of high-frequency critical light scattering by a spherical cavity near the critical angle. The main contributions to the scattering arise from a critical domain close to critical incidence. The results are in good agreement with the exact Mie solution.

Effects of Particle Nonsphericity on Light-Scattering,Characterizing particles by analyzing their light scattering properties is of interest in many diverse fields. The most common measurement is particle size. Measurements of particle refractive index and shape are also of interest. Most optical sizing methods are based on the assumption that the particles are spherical.
