描述The principle aim of this book, entitled "Operations ResearchlManagement Science at Work", is to provide a summary snapshot of recent research in and applications of Operations Research (OR)/ Management Science (MS) in the Asia-pacific region. The book emphasises research having potential industry interest, covering a wide range of topics from major fields of ORIMS in a systematic and coherent fashion and shows the elegance of their implementations. The book is intended to serve the needs of applied researchers who are interested in applications of ORIMS algorithms. The book includes descriptions of many real-world problems together with their solutions; we hope the reader will appreciate their applicability. The Asia-pacific region has embraced business applications of decision support systems in recent years. Given that many of these applications are unaffected by legacy models or systems it has meant that state of the art ORIMS techniques have been embedded in them. Moreover, the increased use of OR/MS techniques in this region provides opportunities for identifying methodological advances that are taking place as a result of the unique nature of the applications. The DSS Architecture Based on Non-Mathematical Problems Specification and Model/Solver Independencea user-defined model and a standard model through ‘connection information’. A prototypal DSS with the proposed architecture helps a decision-maker having insufficient mathematical knowledge to communicate with OR/MS experts and to select and invoke an adequate solver for a decision problem.

Sequencing and Scheduling for Non-Serial Permutation Flowshops,nd no-wait flowshop scenarios. The outcomes of this research include a number of new and alternative mathematical formulations for finding the optimal sequence of the products to be processed through the non-serial line. Secondly recurrence equations for scheduling purposes have also been developed.

A General Framework for Constructive Meta-Heuristics,onstructive meta-heuristics, such as ant colony optimisation and generalised random adaptive search procedures, pose more substantial problems to achieve this same level of generalistaion. This paper investigates the issues involved and suggests some measures by which generalisation could be achieved.

A Material Planning Model for Mixed Model Assembly Lines, of SMP information assists in the ordering of stock to reduce the risk of delays in production due to stock outs. The SMP model is used to reduce this complexity and to improve the accuracy of a multi-product production plant. The SMP is based on and implemented in a truck production plant, is calculated in a MS-Access database.
