In particular this requires to solve a quadratic integer programming problem, equivalent to a matching problem. The latter is efficiently solved by an exact algorithm based on works of Burkard, Derigs, Metz.

The Simulated Trading Heuristic for Solving Vehicle Routing Problems, show that the quality of our solutions is superior to all heuristics for which solution values were known. Because of the limitation of space we will explain only the basic principle of Simulated Trading with a short example and will give an outline of the algorithm. A formal and detailed description of Simulated Trading can be found in [BHM92].
