If successful, this historian would have covered in his monograph a very substantial portion of the history of astronomy in our century.

Oort and his Large Radiotelescope, of the birth pangs of the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, but at the end of 1963 how did it look ? Some might have described it as the time of the frustration of the hopes and plans of Jan Oort for the Benelux Cross Antenna; for that telescope was never built.
