Fault in Transmission Cables and Current Fault Location Methods conducted and the most important references are presented in the following chapter. Firstly, however, the mechanisms leading to faults in high voltage cables are briefly covered in order to examine which fault location methods are applicable.

Problem Formulation and Thesis Outlined systems. A thorough investigation into the behaviour of the crossbonded cable system under steady state and transient faulted conditions must be carried out. An important part of the work will be to verify the developed fault location method against field measurements of faults emulated on an installed crossbonded cable.

Wave Propagation on Three Single-Core Solid-Bonded and Crossbonded Cable Systemsying a voltage impulse equal, but with opposite sign to that existing on the faulted phase at the time of fault. The study of how high frequency impulses propagate on a crossbonded system is therefore interesting for fault location purposes and is studied in this chapter.

Impedance-Based Field Measurementsble models of today can be used to predict the fault loop impedance of various fault types is such a way that generic algorithms can be trained to estimate the fault location on crossbonded cables with good accuracy.
