Atomic Physics and Nuclear PropertiesThe three topics which I propose to review in the present talk are, in my opinion, the main traces of nuclear shapes and nuclear structure in atomic spectra: (i) the electric-quadrupolar hyperfine structure, (ii) the magnetic-dipolar hyperfine-structure anomaly, and (iii) the field isotope shift.

Isotope Shifts and Hyperfine Structure in Polonium Isotopes by Atomic Beam Laser SpectroscopyAtomic electrons can be used to probe nuclei by studying details of atomic spectra: the isotope shift of spectral lines contains information on the change of the mean square charge radius from one isotope to another one, while the hyperfine splitting allows to determine spins and the lower electromagnetic moments of nuclei.

Collective and Quasi-Particle Degrees of Freedom in 178Hf (*)A consistent description using the Skyrme SIII force, of both the individual and collective spectroscopic properties at low excitation energy of the .Hf nucleus, is presented. Along with rotational and vibrational states, the K.=16. isomeric state is very well reproduced. A discussion of the crucial importance of pairing correlations is made.

Low-Energy Multiphonon States in Deformed NucleiA discussion of the low-energy multiphonon states in deformed nuclei is made based on theoretical results obtained by using the multiphonon method. Comparisons with experimental data show that collective two phonon states exist in deformed nuclei and that the multiphonon method can be used as a dynamical approach to octupole correlations.
