描述.Noun Phrases and Nominalizations: The Syntax of DPs. is atheoretical study of nominal expressions which covers central aspectsof their syntax that have not been approached with concurrent tools inrecent years. The study examines the functional structure, offers astructural definition of syntactic nominalization, and carefully drawsthe border line between the lexical nominalizing mechanism and itssyntactic counterpart. The empirical base of the study is broad andvaried: it explores the rich nominal system of Modern Hebrew withconstant comparisons to relevant structures of other Semitic andnon-Semitic languages. The analyses put forward have recourse to aminimal syntactic apparatus, thus lending support to Chomsky‘s recentview of language design. .This book targets researchers in theoretical linguistics andcomparative syntax. Alongside theoretical and cross-linguisticfindings, the book also offers an abundant source of insights intoHebrew nominal expressions. It can be used both as a foundational bookon the syntax of nominal expressions or as a reference book forlinguists and graduate students of Semitic and comparative syntax.

Event Nominals,ishing between event nominals (also known in the literature as process or action nominals) and result nominals (sometimes concrete or simple nouns), linguists have investigated the behavior of nouns with respect to argument structure and θ-theory (Anderson 1983–84, Lebeaux 1986, Grimshaw 1990, among others).

Verbal and Nominal Gerunds, a syntactic affix that has a nominalizing function and consequently subcategorizes for a VP (chapter 3). In this sense, verbs cannot change their categorial specification. Hebrew event nominals have been shown to be purely nominal, although at first glance they seem to manifest some verbal properties (chapter 3).
