描述Infrared astronomy has undergone an enormous revolution duringthe last decade. Despite the great technical difficulties of buildingdetectors in a cryogenic environment, the scientific advances ininfrared astronomy have been astounding. In the near future many moreadvances can be expected from still newer developments in telescopeand detector designs. High quality detector arrays and passivelycooled telescopes are very promising techniques for achievingconsiderably larger apertures. .This volume contains the refereed papers from the workshop on ‘NextGeneration Infrared Observatory‘, dealing with all new aspects offuture infrared telescopes. .
