The principles of neutron spin echo,ogether with those I have already thanked in the preface. I should particularly like to thank the audiences who attended the talks I have given at various places, whose questions and sometimes difficulties with these ideas were certainly invaluable for my own understanding.

Tentative use of NSE in biological studies,appear in these experiments. The most prominent result concerns the observation of an organized liquid arrangement of molecules inside the red cells of normal human blood. This suffices to prove that NSE spectrometry is a promising tool in the field of biology.

Comparison of the performance of the backscattering spectrometer IN10 and the neutron spin-echo spe of magnetic field inhomogeneities. Indeed, very recently (Dec. 1979) the energy resolution of IN11 has been improved considerably to Γ = 14 neV at λ = 8 A /18/. On IN10, the energy resolution for low Q experiments can be improved and the energy transfer range be extended.

Neutron spin echo and three-axis spectrometers,stic scattering. In the latter case, resolution similar to that available with the best X-ray spectrometers can be achieved. Finally, design calculations for precision magnets suitable for use with three-axis spectrometers are presented.
