It should not be surprising, then, that microglial activation has been found to be a crucial event mediating inflammatory responses in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (reviewed in Neuroinflammation Working Group 2000).

Chemokine Receptors on Mononuclear Phagocytes in the Central Nervous System of Patients with Multiperefore, the determinants of monocyte recruitment to the CNS in MS and similar pathologies have been examined. Chemokines and their receptors have been implicated in monocyte trafficking under pathological as well as physiological conditions and have emerged as salient targets for investigation (Luster 1998; Zlotnik and Yoshie 2000).
