Modeling VC, VP and VN bandwidth assignment strategies in broadband networks,r the various VPs passing through it, and we study their performance, in terms of both the schedulable and admissible load regions. Finally, we show how our methodology can be applied to arbitrary public networks supporting virtual private networks.

Performance bottlenecks in digital movie systems,ith digital movie systems, preventing their widespread use today. In this paper we address performance issues of digital movie systems from a practical perspective. We report on performance experience gained with the XMovie system, and on new algorithms and protocols to overcome some of these bottlenecks.

Adaptive real-time resource management supporting modular composition of digital multimedia servicecontinue executing perfectly even while others execute with dynamically renegotiated resource grants or are gracefully shut down, as per user preferences. We believe that this approach will lead to real-time scheduling and resource management algorithms that are appropriate for workstation and home multimedia environments.

SVR4UNIX scheduler unacceptable for multimedia applications, to deal with these problems.This paper provides a quantitative analysis of real system behavior, demonstrates why it is not possible to obtain the kind of behavior desired with the mechanisms currently provided by the system, and presents modifications to improve the situation.
