Fossil mammals were first recorded in the Manonga Valley during the 1920s and 1930s (Stockley, 1929; Grace and Stockley, 1930; Williams and Eades, 1938) but substantial collections were not made until the Wembere-Manonga Paleon-tological Expedition (WMPE) first visited the area in 1990 (Harrison and Mbago, this volume, Chapter 1).
