描述The Workshop N* Physics and non-perturbative QeD was held at the Eu- ropean Center for Theoretical Studies and Related Areas (ECT*) in Trento, Italy, during May 18-29, 1998. Previous workshops of the series on N* Physics took place at the Florida State University (1994), at CEBAF (1995), at the Institute for Nuclear Theory in Seattle (1996) and at the George Washington University (1997). The Workshop was devoted to a summary of recent experimental and the- oretical research on N* phsyics and special emphasis was given to the infor- mation that photo-and electro-production of nucleon resonances can provide on the non-perturbative regime of Quantum Chromodynamics. The idea was to stimulate discussions among experimentalists and theoreticians in order to pursue the interpretation of the huge amount of forthcoming data from several laboratories in the world. It was therefore decided to have both experimental and theoretical lectures on the main topics, like ,among the others, single and double pion production, TJ-and K-meson production, the GDH sum rule, the spin of the proton, etc. Thanks to the unusual two-week extension of the Work- shop, the allotted time for the lectures was exten

Boson and Gluon Exchange and the Quark-Quark Interaction,ested that a qualitatively reasonable model for the hyperfine interaction between quarks is obtained by the combination of a weak gluon exchange interaction and the standard pseudoscalar meson exchange interaction with the irreducible pseudoscalar meson exchange + gluon exchange interaction.

Hadronic Decays of Baryon Resonances in the Goldstone-Boson-Exchange Constituent-Quark Model,tudy hadronic decays of light and strange baryon resonances. Three-quark wave functions produced with the stochastic variational method are used to calculate partial decay widths of π and η decays within the elementary emission model.

Hypercentral Constituent Quark Model,ntial contributions. We report our results on the baryon spectrum, the helicity amplitudes and the transition form factors, comparing them with experimental data. The effect of introducing relativistic corrections at a kinematical level is also briefly discussed.

In this way the relativistic description of finite dimensional resonance towers containing higher-spin states becomes possible. It is further argued that the nucleon excitations into the . = 1 and . = 2 multiplets are chiral phase transitions.

Perturbatile QCD Applied to Baryons,We review standard applications of perturbative QCD to baryon production, and argue by examining data that it is generally relevant at high but experimentally feasible momentum transfers. Then we consider some new initiatives, particularly meson photoproduction off baryons and the seeming quagmire of Δ(1232) electroproduction.
