We briefly discuss some of the fabrication technologies used in the production of microfluidic systems and then present a number of examples of devices and applications relevant to the biological and life sciences.

Rapid Prototyping of Microstructures by Soft Lithography for Biotechnology,rapidly devices that also can be disposable. Here we describe the procedures for fabricating microstructures with lateral dimensions as small as 1?μm. These types of microstructures are useful for microfluidic devices, cell-based assays, and bioengineered surfaces.
