The sampling of rocks for palaeomagnetism,al in which the rocks acquired their primary magnetization. The factors which have to be taken into account to achieve this are the nature of the Earth’s magnetic field and its variations, the time-depth relationship in a geological structure and the process by which the rock acquired its remanent magnetism.
