Magnetic Bearing Design for a High Speed RotorThe design of an example set of magnetic bearings for a small high speed compressor is presented. The bearings were designed to replace the fluid film bearings of an existing compressor design. Reduction of parasitic power losses due to the bearings is projected to be from the current 2 kW down to approximately 200 W.
