描述This volume contains papers presented either in oral or posterform at the international symposium `Limnology of Mountain Lakes‘,held at Stará Lesná (Slovakia) between 1 and 7 July1991. Several papers covered contributions from the fields of physicaland chemical limnology, palaeolimnology, zooplankton, phytoplanktonand phytobenthos, and bacteria. Acidification, a process affectingwater chemistry and biota of many mountain lakes in Europe was dealtwith also. A series of papers on the lakes in Sumava hashighlighted different aspects of these lakes, which are in the laststage of acidification. Other geographical areas covered extensivelywere the Tatras and the Alps. .

Acidification and weathering processes in high mountain lakes in Southern Alps, summer, long after the acid shock caused by snowmelt, some lakes were found to be acidic and 47% of them show alkalinity values of below 50 .eg 1..
