Efforts are underway to organize a Hawaii chapter of the International Dark-Sky Association to provide broad-based support for the protection of the skies above Mauna Kea and Haleakala Observatories, and to improve the sky above Honolulu.

Precise Evaluation of Upward Flux from Outdoor Lighting Installationse interior lighting calculation techniques to quantify with a known and high level of accuracy this flux by integrating all the light coming from illuminated outdoor surfaces, taking the incident angles into account.
