Georges Brunel,duced himself in his first letter to Poincaré, he wrote as a “comrade”, i. e. fellow normalien of Paul Appell and émile Picard, although both, to be sure, were a few years ahead of him there (Appell entered the école normale in 1873, Picard in 1874).

Generalize

Felice Casorati,8] of 1868 was one of the first textbooks on the subject in any language. Apart from the highly informative 143 pages of historical introduction, the book is notable for taking a largely Riemannian approach to the foundations of the subject. The second volume that Casorati hinted at in his letter was never written.
