The Role of Precursors in Molecular Chemisorption and Thermal Desorption tungsten substrate was determined to remain close to unity even near saturation coverage. Taylor and Langmuir /1/ invoked a mobile intermediate state to interpret this functional dependence of the adsorption coefficient on adsorbate coverage.

Molecular Beam Studies of Dissociative Chemisorption on W(110)coverage is found to be energy dependent. In experiments with HD, we have examined the relationship between rotationally mediated selective adsorption, physisorption and dissociative chemisorption on this surface. We find that selective adsorption does not lead to chemisorption, but contributes to the diffuse scattering channel.

Energy Distributions of Thermally Desorbed Molecules: NO on AG(111) and Pt(111)There has been considerable recent experimental and theoretical interest in the translational and internal energies of molecules desorbed from surfaces [1–13]. Deviations from equilibrium populations have been both predicted and observed. Such deviations can provide clues to the desorption mechanism and to the underlying gas-surface interactions.
