Kawasaki Disease Shock Syndromedrome (KDSS), and in this chapter we review the epidemiology, proposed mechanisms, clinical course, and treatment of KDSS. Differential diagnosis of KDSS and toxic shock syndrome is also discussed. The overlap between these two disease entities may provide clues for future studies.

Future Directions in Kawasaki Disease Researchs pathophysiology remain obscure [1, 2]. Although there are over 5000 articles in the English-language, peer-reviewed literature on various aspects of KD, there remain many important unanswered questions. To discover the best path forward, it may be instructive to look at how progress has been achieved in the past.

Epidemiologic Perspectivese hope that epidemiologic research would provide clues to the central mystery of Kawasaki disease: its etiology. New insights regarding the seasonality of KD and the relationship to wind patterns may now indeed lead us to the answer.

Kawasaki Disease Epidemiology in Europe0s and then plateaued. Current annual incidence is about 5–10 per 100,000 children younger than 5?years. The highest incidence is in Ireland (15.2 per 100,000). Discrepancies in incidence rates may reflect differences in disease recognition rather than true variation in incidence.
