Metrics and benchmarking for parallel job scheduling,chedulers. This benchmark will specify distributions of parallelism and runtime, as found by analyzing accounting traces, and also internal structures that create different speedup and synchronization characteristics. As for metrics, we present some problems with slowdown and bounded slowdown that have been proposed recently.

A resource management architecture for metacomputing systems,niques have been implemented in the context of the Globus metacomputing toolkit and used to implement a variety of different resource management strategies. We report on our experiences applying our techniques in a large testbed, GUSTO, incorporating 15 sites, 330 computers, and 3600 processors.

The results showed that Fit Processors First Served (FPFS), which searches the job queue and positively dispatches jobs that fit idle processors, was more effective and more practical than others.

Improving first-come-first-serve job scheduling by gang scheduling, workload data that the algorithm is also suitable to be applied in real parallel computers.
