High Speed Pulsed Power Technology at Aldermastonbly in the last few years. At the present stage machines have been built in the United States which can produce X-ray doses in excess of 7000 roentgens (R) at 1 metre in 100 nanoseconds with voltages as high as 10 million volts and electron beam currents around 250,000 amps (1).

High Speed Breakdown of Small Air Gaps in Both Uniform Field and Surface Tracking Geometriesained incidentally during other work and while reasonable care was taken to calibrate the voltage monitors and to allow for’ scope response, etc., the accuracy of the data is not outstanding, being no better than ± 3%.

At various times over the passing years, I have attempted to relate some aspects of uniform water breakdown to the streamer velocity relations originally measured by George Herbert in “Velocity of Propagation of High Voltage Streamers in Various Liquids”, SSWA/HGH/6610/104.
